This 8ft Riley Imperial dates from circa 1946. It is a six-leg design, originally manufactured in solid oak, and it carries a three-piece 1½ inch slate bed.
The cushions are solid mahogany. We made a new set in our workshop a few years ago after the original set fell into disrepair, which brought the playing experience back to what it should be.
The table
The frame is solid oak on six legs, with the replacement solid mahogany cushions made here in Accrington. The second photograph shows the table's Riley serial number, and the third shows a Riley Imperial being assembled at the Riley factory on Dale Street, Accrington.
The refurbishment
Like all our pre-owned tables, this one is totally stripped and sanded and any imperfections repaired. Because the frame is oak and the cushions are mahogany, all exterior-facing surfaces are finished in a rich dark shade so that the difference between the two timbers is disguised, unless you ask for something else.
New nets and leathers are fitted, new Northern rubbers are fitted to all cushions, and both bed and cushions are covered in Hainsworth Smart wool napped cloth in the colour of your choice.
